Design Engineer - Bulk Materials Handling, Spalding, Lincolnshire

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced design engineer to join our well established engineering department.

Key Accountabilities and Attributes:

  • Design of core machinery using 3D Autodesk Inventor
  • Designs/modifications to standard machinery to suit the clients particular site requirements and/or engineering changes as required
  • Creation of Engineering Drawings to communicate designs to the customer and the rest of the business
  • Creation of Bills of Materials for entry into the company’s ERP system.
  • Working with sales and development engineers to create new products from initial concept through to full production units
  • Value engineering of current designs
  • Use of DFM best practices to meet the needs of the production facility
  • Working with the production operatives to increase production efficiency through better machine design and the design of jigs and fixtures
  • Enhancing the customer satisfaction levels to be the major focus
  • Be forward thinking and raise new ideas and working methods to increase the department’s throughput

The Candidate

Qualifications

  • Ideally post-secondary qualification, HND/Degree or equivalent in a technical discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
  • Training will be given to enable the successful candidate to perform their role with confidence and competence

Experience & Skills

  • Experience of engineering design of bulk materials handling machinery would be highly desirable (or other bespoke industrial machinery)
  • Experience of designing products for use in explosive environments would be useful but not necessary
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Good working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault CAD system (Alternatively use of other 3D CAD systems and file management would be appropriate)
  • Competent IT user, confident with Microsoft Office (in particular Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet Explorer and experience with modern MRP/ERP systems. Guttridge utilises Epicor

Notes to the Position

The Design engineer should have significant demonstrated experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment – preferably with engineered metal fabricated equipment

While Guttridge products are of low to medium volume and medium to high levels of variability in specification, we aim to utilise appropriate lean methodologies that fit the business model and experience in this business model is highly beneficial.

The highest levels of quality standard are needed and required for the role. The Design engineer would be expected to help implement changes leading from internal quality issues or engineering changes.

The role will be primarily office based, however may involve some travel to suppliers and customers as required.

To liaise with other departments as appropriate, to ensure the timely completion of projects

Maintaining accountability for the accuracy of system information relating to the Bill of materials for every part, assembly and contract Job .

A range of objectives and KPIs from short to long term will apply, typically embracing; on time delivery of contract Jobs from the department & Reduction of engineering related quality issues

The role requires the use of the following software:

  • Microsoft office products – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Autodesk products - Inventor 3D CAD, AutoCAD.2D CAD & Vault
  • Epicor (ERP)
