Guttridge a Spalding based manufacturer celebrates its 60th Anniversary.
Friday 23 September, 2022
This August and September Guttridge, originally established by Dr. David Guttridge, celebrates its 60th anniversary and is looking forward to expanding with plans to grow the business even bigger.
Guttridge, now found in Pinchbeck Wardentree Industrial Estate, began with Spalding businessman Dr. David Guttridge’s idea of a mobile animal feed mill – a gap in the UK market he recognized after a trip to America. The idea soon became a reality in 1962 when he formed Guttridge Feed Services Ltd. Challenged by the market changes in later years, Dr. David Guttridge decided to focus on his business direction and used his existing skilled staff and workshops, and began to design and manufacture a range of bulk material handling equipment. Guttridge became one of the well-known and successful leaders in the bulk material handling market. With the passing of Dr. David Guttridge, Peter Guttridge, David’s son took charge of the family business.
In 2004 Guttridge acquired the Carier intellectual property and brand and blended the best design elements from Guttridge and Carier to produce the most cost-effective machines for the grain industries. In 2019 Peter Guttridge decided to retire from the business and Guttridge Ltd was acquired by Mitchells group.
After 60 years, Guttridge employs over 90 staff whose work has won various awards, supplying solutions to the farmer and global customers, we continue to offer value-for-money solutions that meet customers' needs and applications.
Guttridge has always been a family business and it continues to be. Today Guttridge operates as part of the MHA group which Mic Mittasch owns. The MHA group is built on the heritage of both Michells Nanjing and Guttridge Spalding, two of today's most recognizable names in the Bulk Material industry. Together both companies boast more than 20,000 square meters of manufacturing facilities and provide bulk material handling solutions for a diverse range of industries. Guttridge continues to operate from its site in Spalding, manufacturing machines to be installed throughout the world.
When the business was bought in 2019, everything was fantastic, with clear communication between Mitchells and Guttridge, including frequent travel, and then Covid hit…
To mark the 60th Anniversary the CEO Mic Mittasch addressed his employees with a speech and thanked everyone for their hard work and especially those employees who stuck around throughout the pandemic. In his speech Mic also gave an insight into 2022. “ For 2022, I mean for both businesses (Mitchells and Guttridge) it’s going to be our biggest year ever. But we are not going to rest on that. We will keep challenging ourselves, we will keep pushing, and we are going to keep growing. I have not stopped yet, there will be some interesting times ahead and we are going to get bigger. Once again, thank you, everyone!”
Guttridge informally celebrated its 60th anniversary on 16th September with a birthday cake and many, many of cupcakes, and a surprise visit of Peter Guttridge, the man whose name is on the building as the business’ current owner Mic Mitasch likes to say it.
