Student placements - a welcome opportunity at Guttridge
Wednesday 11 September, 2013
In keeping with the Guttridge drive to bring in fresh, inspirational talent to join our teams of engineers and our aim to encourage students, interns and young people to take up long term careers in industry, we have worked with the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University for over three years.
Engineering students have joined us for their placement year, bringing their energy and enthusiasm to a range of projects from inception to completion. The students gain a true picture of what it is like to work in industry, with a high level of involvement, working with live jobs from the outset and the opportunity to take on a significant level of responsibility.
As an illustration of the success of this program, we are delighted that Hugh Middleton, who left to complete his final year at University in 2012, completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering in June this year and has now taken up a permanent position with the Guttridge design team. Hugh commented: “I found my year at Guttridge challenging, instructive and extremely enjoyable. The opportunities I was given to work on real, “live” projects taught me to be responsible and self-disciplined and the experience of working in a busy manufacturing environment was an invaluable accompaniment to the theory of a mechanical engineering degree. When the opportunity arose to take up a full time, permanent post at the company, I was delighted to accept.”
James Wu, studying Product Design Engineering, has just begun his placement year with us following the departure of Bukunmi Ogunye, who left Guttridge to complete her final year of her Engineering degree in August. Working within the support of the engineering design team, James will take projects from the first stages of development through design, manufacture and testing to delivery and commissioning.
Guttridge looks for individuals who are enthusiastic and conscientious with a desire to learn about the business. We welcome enquiries from students and interns at varying stages of their education from school work experience through to interns following the completion of their degree and can offer a comprehensive range of experience opportunities in all fields within the business.
With a foundation of 50 years of experience, Guttridge is a flourishing company, globally respected for delivering well-engineered, reliable materials handling solutions that continue to anticipate dramatically changing industrial needs.
