The Engineering Education Scheme (EES) is a six-month Engineering Development Trust (EDT) programme that links teams of year 12 students and their teachers with local companies, where they work on real scientific or engineering projects to encourage STEM within schools.

On 20th June, Guttridge attended the Regional Celebration Day at Loughborough University along with a group of Year 12 students from Spalding Grammar School. This was the final part of the project that was sponsored by Guttridge.

The students were tasked with building an En-Masse conveyor test bed with the ability to view the product flowing through the machine, so we can better understand the machine.

The project involved the students and teacher attending an induction day in October where they met the mentor, Louise Luck, and took part in team building skills. This was followed up by weekly meetings to discuss progress. In January the students, teacher, and mentor were invited to a residential workshop at Loughborough University. They could utilise the equipment and resources at the University to progress their project. A written report was then submitted, followed by a presentation to a panel of judges from various industries.

The students really enjoyed having insight into how an industry works and how a project is processed from the initial concept to the final product. Although Spalding Grammar School didn’t win any prizes at the Celebration Day, they were all presented with Industrial Cadets Gold awards.
