Almost everything we send out to customers is processed through our Stores department here in Spalding; this includes receiving parts from our suppliers, checking parts against our drawings, keeping track of what we have in stock, picking the correct parts, and making sure they get to wherever they are needed, whether that’s to help manufacture our machines in the factory, or out to our valued customers to keep their machines running in peak condition.

While it may sound like a fairly straightforward job, in reality, this requires strong attention to detail and precision. Our Stores are required to be strong communicators liaising between the workshop and our suppliers to ensure all deliveries are shipped on time and to make sure that we have enough stock to keep us going. They’ve also got to have good time management, to keep our manufacturing process on track, and eliminate any delays for our customers. Another one of the Stores’ requirements is to make sure that we have enough Steel in stock to keep our Laserfab team going!

Our Stores are also vital for customers’ Spare Part enquiries. When a customer calls into our Sales Team with an enquiry for Spare Parts, one of our Sales Team (usually David Ardron, our Spare Parts guru here at Guttridge) will raise a quote, and once a Sales Order is raised on our system then our Stores team swing into action. Stores have to ensure Guttridge has enough stock of everything on the quote, and then must pick, prepare, and pack the parts, before handing the packages over to our network of delivery partners, usually for next-working-day delivery! 

It’s never a dull day in our Stores department.
